Things To Avoid When Getting Pregnant

There are not many things to avoid when getting pregnant if you want to conceive as soon as possible and provide your baby optimal conditions for growth from the first day onwards. But as you most likely noticed, getting pregnant is not as easy when you decide that it is time. However, there are several ways to improve your chances of conceiving fast and remembering the list of things to avoid when getting pregnant is the key.

Here are the most important things to avoid when getting pregnant:

Birth control pills. Obviously, you will need to stop using birth control pills if you want to conceive. However, you probably will not get pregnant as soon as you do not take your first pill. If you were using oral contraceptives for a longer period of time, you may need more time to conceive than women who used other contraceptive methods.

Cigarettes. Cigarette smoking does not only harm your health but it also prevents you from getting pregnant. Studies have shown that women who smoke take longer to conceive than nonsmokers. So if you smoke, give up this unhealthy habit as soon as possible. You will need to quit smoking anyway when your conceive because it harms the baby.

Alcohol. It may not directly interfere with conception, however, drinking alcohol at any time during pregnancy can affect your baby’s development. For that reason you are highly recommended to stop drinking alcohol when you are trying to get pregnant because safe amounts of alcohol for pregnant women have not been determined.

Coffee and other caffeine-containing beverages. The recent studies have shown that a cup of coffee a day does not hurt the baby, however, it is necessary to avoid drinking large amounts of caffeine when you are trying to conceive as some studies have linked caffeine to difficulties getting pregnant. Also, keep in mind that coffee is not the only source of caffeine. If you decide to continue to drink that cup of coffee, be sure to avoid black tea, green tea, colas and desserts made with coffee.

Scented toiletries. Perfumed tampons, sanitary pads, vaginal sprays and douches can make your vaginal environment “hostile” to the sperm and make it harder to conceive. Scented toiletries should therefore be avoided if you want to get pregnant faster.

Unnecessary medications. Do not take any medications unless specifically told to do so by your doctor because they may interfere with your efforts to conceive or/and harm your baby. If you take any medications, ask your doctor if you need to stop taking them before you get pregnant.

Stress. It is impossible to avoid stress but it is possible to control it. Use stress relief and relaxation techniques because too much stress in your life can make it harder to conceive.

In addition to remembering things you should avoid when trying to conceive, there is also a list of things you need to do if you want to get pregnant in the shortest time possible. But above all, it is necessary to eat a healthy diet, be adequately physically active and of course, have sex when you ovulate. You can use ovulation prediction methods but most couples who have sex at least three times a week succeed relatively early.
